Any alternatives (punishments, losing privileges) need to be for not minding you/doing what she's supposed to be doing...right away. In other words, *on top of* the fact that you STILL have to do it. There can be no alternative that gets her out of it.

Going out on a limb here, and I'm sure many will disagree, but I think time-outs are completely useless, and even harmful. You're exactly right, it delays what she is resisting. The time is better spent talking to her about her behavior, *after* she's been made to follow through. If it's bath struggles, then when you've finally got her in bed all cuddled up, talk to her gently about your expectations of her. Time out just provides another disconnect, IMHO.
