Defiance in 7 year old - help!

My daughter has begun openly challenging me in a way not ever done before. "No, I will not take a bath." "No, I won't do blah blah." "You can't make me." Slam the door in my face.

I am tired of fighting arguing. It is useless. She needs to connect the action with the punishment. We don't spank, so don't suggest that.

I am instituting a stop-light signal on behavior: start on green, every infraction gets a stoplight color, so infraction one goes to yellow, then two to yellow two, then three goes to red. Three strikes and your out if you will. If she goes on red, she loses a privilage such as bowling, park day, etc.

My goal is to teach her to recognize the actions that get her in trouble and to make the lesson painful enough that it'll stick. The stoplight is visual for her. She needs to see it I think.

It worked last year when we had other behavior issues, so I'm hoping it'll work for defiance.

Any suggestions or opinions?

Thanks,

Lesley
