It was really sweet, and dd (4) was *so* excited.
But, I had recently promised to buy dd flip flops. She saw a mom & daughter wearing matching ones, so I told her we could, too.
We've looked at a couple of stores in passing without finding any. Once I realized we'd have to make a special trip to the shoe store, I told her we'd make it a "girl night."
I was going to paint our toenails matching colors, take her out to tea, and buy flip flops. It's silly, but she was excited.
Mil didn't know anything about it, so it's just an unfortunate coincidence, but how sad.
Then there's the separate issue of--what is she thinking sending a 4yo home with her own bottles of nail polish & lipstick!!??
It's not really too big of a deal. Glad to have such a great mil, really. To keep my promise, I think I may have to buy dd ANOTHER pair of flip flops (of all things!). Oh well.
Thanks for listening. :(
