- I don't know about it's ecological soundness, but I *do* know that it isn't an alternative to bleach, meaning that it will NOT remove stains. It's an *optical whitener* meaning that it floureseces (sp?) so that things look really nice and bright, and it's faintly blue, which will balance any yellowness to the white article of clothing, but if there's a stain, it's still there.
