Hi all:
Ok, the entire Bionicle-opoly game is patterned directly after your basic Monopoly game. I m going to assume that everyone reading this already has a regular Monopoly board for reference, so if you DON t, please email me again and I ll try to elaborate :-)
We did this before all the new Bionicle stuff started coming out, so it's all based on "original" Bionicles. I'd love to hear any "update" ideas you come up with!
the first thing we did was copy the board. I traced the actual board onto a piece of cardboard [plywood is even better!], painted it white, and marked off along the edges where all the little property rectangles and corners were. We used a yardstick to connect all the lines and draw the board [except don t draw through the middle, lol!]. We marked in pencil which corners were Jail, Go, Go to Jail, and Free Parking. Starting from the Go corner, we put the property bar space at the top of each property rectangle [color it in later].
Instead of Chance and Community Chest, we decided to use Toa and Turaga cards. So in each space that corresponded to drawing those cards, we wrote in the correct name.
***Note: I would highly suggest getting the Bionicle Handbook if you don t already have it. It made this process a lot less difficult for those of us who have NO IDEA what in Mata Nui is going on!!!
Anyway, the game itself centers around the villages of Mata Nui [maaa-tuh new-ee]. The object is to collect all important landmarks [Non-Official--made up by us] for each village to get a Monopoly on that village. The villages each have their own color based on their geography:
Ta-Koro = Red [lava-fire]
Onu-Koro = Black [underground -caves]
Ga Koro = Blue [water]
Le-Koro = Green [jungle]
Ko-Koro = White [ice]
Po-Koro = Brown [sand- desert]
There are 2 smaller 2-property monopolies. We chose to use the game of Kohlii [koh-lee] as one monopoly [purple to copy the first 2 on the board, lol!] and the masks as another property [gold/yellow, of course!!]
We needed a transportation monopoly to take the place of the railroads: we settled on Boxors , and gave each one it s own color [but Mom, they don t really HAVE their own color! Me: well, we need a way to differentiate between them!! Oh. O.k.....]: Red, Blue, Green, and White. To give it a monopoly group color, they are outlined in a light orange on the board.
We also needed 2 utility monopolies:
Gukko Bird Rental and Ussal Crab Rental. They are outlined in Gray on our board. [feel free to substitute another color: we did this at 2am, lol!]
Now that we know what our monopolies are, we need properties w/in those monopolies:
I set the purchase prices at 10% of the original Monopoly price, collecting $20 as you pass go.
Starting at Go, I ll mosey around the board and show you how ours is set-up:

I used index cards cut in half for Deed Cards. We colored the Monopoloy color at the top, using the red line as a reference. 3 Red, 4 orange, 2 gray, 2 purple, etc.
The name of the property is written, and the rent. We opted out of houses, and the rent is simply doubled for monopolies. [if anyone comes up w/ a good property improvement system, let me know :-) ].
The Toa/Turaga Crads were index cards cut in thirds. 10 cards each. We divided them each into half good things, half bad things.....

We ll probably try putting a map of Mata Nui on the board, maybe even relocate some of the properties so they are closest to where they appear on the map. There s a Make Your Own Monopoly Kit that we ordered since they worked so tirelessly putting this all together. But w/ shipping it s close to $30 Yike. HOWEVER, once I received it, I noticed that it doesn t have as many spaces on the board!! The software appears to be of no help either.
Oh yeah: we used regular Monopoly money, but only the 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 dollar bills. Start each player with $300 to be sure of not running outta funds. Use Bionicle masks as the pieces, or make your own pieces :-)
