I have used TQ in the past. AMYS I and II and I use III to supplement Winterpromise American Story 2, which we are currently using.

First, Truthquest schedules in SOTW, where it applies. TQ is a chronological guide with commentary and many of the books are rare, some old, but all we've experienced have been terrific reads.

TQ is topic based, so you can simply run a search at your local library and come up with your selections that way. Although, we have found we love the books selections Ms. Miller has listed.

I also considered just using SOTW, but as we're beginning ancient history in 5th, I thought the book selections might be a bit on the young side. I could be wrong here, but from what I've seen...my girls are also strong, voracious readers.

TQ does not have a schedule of sorts. You could use SOTW as your spine and draw in more advanced readers from TQ.

*If* we end up moving back to TQ, I may try to use it with History Portfolio as my outline or the VP cards. I haven't done enough research yet to see how they all line up.

I like the idea of History Porfolio b/c of the maps and narration ideas/setup. When use used TQ we didn't do much map work. I used the KQ maps some, but this was part of my draw to TOG. I love how geography is incorporated.

I don't own MOH, but my sil does and is enjoying it. I don't care for it as a spine. I believe there are reading lists in the back, and as you know, it's appropriate for a wide range of ages.

It would be easy to add the Dover Coloring books and maybe even the TOG maps to TQ, but may take a little coordinating.

TQ is one of the best book lists going, IMO. I keep it as a resource even when we're not using it as a spine.

Ms. Miller's commentary comes from the perspective of what she terms the Big Two Beliefs; Who is God and who then is mankind in light of that belief.

I was all set to order TOG this week, but am holding off for a bit until I figure out if it will work for us. All the scheduling posts lately have me feeling a little nervous.

I hope this answers some of your questions.
