Now I'm confused about history... want to do a lit based Am. history program next year...

I have a 10 yo who reads way above grade level and a 8 yo who may be on grade level now, but struggles (and really just took off reading this year). I also have a toddler and a baby due in about 4 weeks.

I am realizing I feel extremely compelled to do Am. history with them this year, and I'm drawn to the literature based programs. I don't want to spend 2 years on it, though. I'm considering MFW and Sonlight (the sonlight site confuses me, though :P ). I just realized there is also Winter's Promise which doesn't look like it follows what I want to do (and doesn't accomodate an advanced 5th grader).

Any ideas or thoughts?? Would MFW be a good fit (with the supplemental reading for 2nd-3rd grade)? We're currently half way through SOTW 2 and I plan on finishing it up by just listening to it over the summer.
