I'll be teaching a group of about 15 middle school kids in the fall, and I'm looking for a good text that will cover the time period from the fall of Rome to the Enlightenment (or a little beyond), with the focus on western civ. I was planning to use the text that comes with Calvert (Across the Centuries), but after spending 6 hours with it today, I've decided not to. I like the idea of a text so the kids can read it for homework, and then I will coincide my lectures and activities with it. Spielvogel is too hard, as is Paul Johnson.
Any favorites out there? Thanks,
