I have two dc (ds is 12 & dd is 10). My ds is so laid back and will do whatever I give him as far as assignments, curriculum, methods, etc. He just kind of goes with the flow.
My dd, on the other hand, is a free spirit and fights against structure. She doesn't cry or throw tantrums, but she does sometimes complain or takes longer to do something when it has a structure that I have placed on it.
For example, I had the kids doing IEW Theme Based Writing. She does not like it. She is able to focus on it for a little bit, but if left to go at her pace it would take 2-3 weeks to finish a lesson. I have told her that I would be fine with this as long as she shows she is progressing. She still does not like it.
I found Painless Writing Junior at B&N last week and she loves it.
I am willing to let her use that for writing so it is not such a struggle.
I guess my dilema is how much do I change for her? Would you approach your dc in a completely different way as far as structure goes? I am not willing to let go (unschool) completely, but where do I draw the line so we both are happy? I would like to keep ds somewhat structured because he is doing well with it.
Any ideas?
I don't know how much sense I am making. Thanks for reading this far.
