...this year -- bear in mind, my 6th grade has some learning issues, so spelling, writing/handwriting, and math facts are tough for him. I put down how many times a week we do that topic. We spend about 5 to 5-1/2 hours a day on formal schooling.

9am - noon

Bible -- 5x/week -- the Bible; read a passage silently, discussion/prayer together as family

Vocab/Crit Think -- 3-4x/week -- we rotate a variety of things: English from the Roots Up cards; various Critical Thinking books; 1-2 pages a day since Jan. in "Scoring High", a standardized test prep book

Math -- 4x/week -- Math-U-See Epsilon and now Zeta

Reading -- 4-5x week -- out loud together (about 20 minutes a session), and individual reading (about 3 hours a week); books from WTM, SL and other lists, either to fit with our history, or high interest, or well-written books

Writing -- 4x week
- on his own: daily journal entry (1 paragraph long)
- read and discuss together, but does the exercises alone: 1 page a day of Wordsmith Apprentice; 1 page a day out of "Ready, Set, Revise" -- a writing warm-up of a sentence or 2 a day; occassional longer reports/essays/projects

Handwriting -- just finishing up learning keyboarding, so need to come back to this and practice cursive more (it will be on his own)

Spelling -- 4-5x week
- on his own: 1 page a day out of Megawords
- together: Stevenson Spelling Manual (phonics explanations and exercises); written and oral practice of spelling words

Grammar -- 3-4x week
- on his own (then discuss together): practice editing with "Take 5 Minutes: Edit A History Fact A Day" or page from "Editor in Chief"; alternate Daily Grams with comprehension/dictation questions like Sonlight's LA program
- together: just finished Winston Grammar review, now going over Winston Word Works

Typing/Computer -- 4x week
- on his own: 1 page a day in Keyboarding Skills

--lunch--

1pm to 3pm

History -- 4x week
- together: I read aloud various books; occasional timeline work, research/report, supporting video or other hands-on/field trip/etc; currently finishing up U.S. History

Science -- 4x week
- together: I read aloud various books; do experiments/kits/projects/videos/field trips/etc. as they fit in; currently studying Astronomy

Music -- 4x week
-on his own: practice recorder, working through "Nine Note Recorder"
-together: for music appreciation (we alternate weeks with art appreciation) working through 1 composer a week with "Meet the Great Composers" and www.classicsforkids.com and occassional other

finish this for you later!! company just arrived! Lori D.
