each year it tackles nouns-pronouns-adjectives, etc, adding more depth each year. that can be useful however i felt like we were treading water each year, going over the same territory. the new layer was not really discernible to my son and he felt like he was getting nowhere.
AG is teaching the new concept/definition and the subsequent lessons constantly employ the previously learned information. my son (13) is retaining much, much more. diagramming in AG is taught early on and is an integral part of the lesson. with VIE, you have to skip around and figure out where to practice it. i used VIE grade 3 - 7, btw.
any curriculum has to fit the family. AG is sticking better and is much less labor intensive for me. We're only on Lesson 6; i haven't found a downside yet.
