Dd (7th grade next year) wants to become a veterinarian and I need planning advice...(I'm really starting to feel stressed)

I know this means she needs top-notch science and math courses. In Math, she's just finishing Singapore 6B. I plan to continue on with Singapore. She will start NEM I soon. I haven't planned beyond that.

What do you recommend as a science sequence? She's had a mishmash of Apologia and Real Science 4 Kids besides reading through dog encyclopedias (this makes me smile). I know I need to get serious now. Frankly, I'm upset that this field is so competitive, but dd has her heart set on becoming a small animal vet and I don't want to get in the way of her dreams.

Besides the regular college admission requirements, are there any other subjects I need to emphasize? I know that once we get back to the states (plans to move back in the fall) she and I will look at volunteering at a local animal shelter etc.

I have always been pretty relaxed in teaching my kids, but now I'm really feeling that I need to make an effort to prepare my dd for what appears to be the most competitive field in the U.S.. I'm really sorry that she's in this situation, because she's really not motivated by competition and frankly, I'm not sure she's got what it takes to get into a really competitive program.

How do I go about helping my daughter to achieve her dream?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Charlotte
