Hi Heather,
We've read the first book and have just started on the second. It is not a science text but rather an explanation of the development of science within a variety of cultures. We have found it worthwhile for feeling like we're not studying science without some context and while it has some wonderful examples of scientific discoveries I don't think it would suffice as a stand-alone science course. I feel its best use is as a supplement and a means of reawakening a child's interest in science.
