I don't believe in assigning specific ages for things like make-up, pierced ears, nail polish (my mother did and it drove my crazy--it just seemed so arbitrary). Anyway, for my girls, they just naturally started experimenting with lip gloss around 8 (more for the flavors than anything :), and then around 12 or 13 a little powder, peach eyeshadow and brown mascara. My older daughter is now 14 and wears make-up daily. My younger daughter is 11 and puberty has been fierce. She has moderate-severe acne and Bare Minerals powders (as well as a good dermatologist) have been a godsend. I feel like it would be cruel for me not to let her wear make-up. I just try to use good sense, talk to my girls about the dangers of vanity, and not sweat the small stuff.
