My older dd has been in theatre and dance since she was 4yo. She is required to wear make-up for productions and so has grown up thinking that make-up is for productions as part of your costume. She has always hated the way make-up felt on her face and she really, reallys hates to clean it off.
This last school year, she was 17yrs old, and other than performances, she has never shown any interest in wearing make-up. She did, however, decide (on her own) that when she is engaged to play her harp somewhere, that that is also a "production" or "performance" and now she will put make-up on for those occasions.
With younger dd, I have bought her make-up kits, etc. since she was 11yo. She has played with them and messed around a bit with them, but she has actually only put make-up on to wear out somewhere twice that I can recall. One was a formal dinner.
Honestly, I think both girls can not STAND to clean/wash it all off. So, to avoid that unpleasantness, they simply choose to not put it on, unless they "have to" for a performance or production of some type.
Since I haven't made a big deal about them either wearing or NOT wearing it, it hasn't occured to them for it to be something to "want" to do. *I* wear make-up for church of when dressing up to go out somewhere. They see me put it on, but they don't care. Perhaps they think it's an "old lady" thing?
Whatever! But, that's the situation here.
