was just how lacking my own education was in the "good" public schools of the 1960's and 1970's. I was an advanced student in high School, took advanced Lit. classes and Sciences, but had never been exposed to half the stuff I have exposed my children to. When my son took a particular college entrance exam, he heard a young lady brag about being an honors student. She felt she would have no trouble getting into her choice of courses. At orientation my son met up with this same girl who had indeed failed both basic Math and English and did not get into the school. She was there to encourage her boyfriend to not do well so that they would have to go to the same school. Point is, yes, I have been so educated since leaving school behind. My children are shocked to hear that I never was exposed to half of the cool stuff they have gotten a chance to experience. Now that I am just about finished with this process, I feel like I can start concentrating on really learning for myself just for the sake of learning. How cool is that!
