after LP 3, so I suggest you try to move at a fairly quick pace (there are a couple of exceptions) until you hit material that's unfamiliar. The Laura Berquist syllabus has two different schedules that can help keep you on track. I did buy it and used it a lot at first, but like a lot of others I've gradually developed our own sequence of working through each lesson. Now I use it mostly as a quick check to make sure that our pace is more or less on track. On balance, it's been a worthwhile purchase because it really helped us get off to a good start. We like Henle, but things are organized quite differently than the LP series.
You might want to practice the things you learned about verbs in LP just to keep them in mind. Henle doesn't do a lot with verbs until Lesson 9.
Be sure you really know those pronoun chants from LP 3; you'll begin using some of them in Lesson 11.
Plan to spend enough time in Lessons 3 & 8 (third declension nouns and adjectives) to completely master the information in those lessons. It's covered in more detail than in LP. Ditto for Lessons 12 and 13 on verbs of the 3rd & 4th conjugations. I've decided that slowing down a bit and even suspending the syllabus from time to time during those four lessons saves time later on.
Unless your ds finds Latin especially difficult, you can probably finish the first book easily in two years. Keep in mind that you will see a lot of review in the second year book so that may affect how quickly you move through the second year book. If he works slowly, your ds may find the exercises take a lot of time in the beginning.
