In Reply to: does saxon math ,algerba1 cover the same material as Lial's? posted by Mary

I have both (and I have taught both). Both are good, solid algebra programs. My personal preference is Lial--the text is better at self-teaching and providing examples. Both have solutions and video support options.

For all practical purposes they cover the same material (concepts).

Saxon has a wider variety of Geometry problems --Lial does incorporate some Geometry (use of formulas) but not to the extent that Saxon does.

Lial's offers a wider variety of word problems--but Saxon is not weak on them either.

These programs are VERY VERY DIFFERENT in approach and teaching style.
