Our 14 y/o has a computer in his room, but not the internet...

His computer is older and doesn't have wireless capability. If it did, we would be probably place a number of parental controls on the machine.

Fortunately my son's friends are not into Instant Messaging for the most part. Is this a girl thing or an age thing? It seems that the boys have occasional phone conversations, but not necessarily the long winded ones that I remember having when I was their age.

It's the My Space phenomenon that just gives me the creeps. One reads regularly of pedophiles who prey on children from those sorts of platforms. I feel much better having my son view Internet pages in a common space. Also, my husband does take the occasional look at the computer's history to see if he is going anywhere he shouldn't.
