In Reply to: How much time should I shedule for "class discussions"? (m) posted by StaceyL in Canada
I have always scheduled my day so that I meet with my youngest 1st. When I am done, I call in my 2nd child. Sometime after lunch, we sit down and do the classes that are done together and I finish the day with my 3rd. You, however, have one more child to fit into the day :-).
This year my dc seem to have classes that require more of me. I teach 2 Latin classes and a Spanish class! My oldest reads her Chemistry to me while I do lunch prep. Since my youngest can do much of his work alone now, I have started to work with my oldest first to get Spanish and Chemistry out of the way. Then I start with my youngest and we work through the day as usual. After a few weeks, the schedule seems to make itself--we all get use to the time it takes to get things done and we adapt to that schedule.
I sat down with my oldest later this afternoon and reviewed a week's worth of geography and literature. Monday we will do Chemistry review for a test...each day we look at the schedule and choose to do subjects that need mom to keep them going or we catch up on other subjects that have been pushed off for another day.
With my youngest, I do almost every subject with him every day. We read grammar together and do class exercises, then I assign the work (based upon how well he did on the class ex.). I read his composition and we rework it and we read the next assignment together. I dictate the spelling words he got wrong on his pretest and post test each day. We correct section reviews--until we've covered all the basis.
Somedays I get done early and other days I get done late. This year I'm putting in 8-4 a lot; I'm hoping it will not stay that way all year!
