It just depends on the child. (Big surprise there.)
I liked it for the reasons you stated, as well as the fact that it seems to be one of the best math curricula for applying math to real life and for making the student really conceptualize what he/she is doing.
However, no math course is perfect, nor is there any single math series that is best for everyone. As you can see from my subject line, I felt that while UCSMP was fine for my older two, my youngest would probably do better with a different series starting with geometry. However, UCSMP Transition Math and UCSMP Algebra were great for him, of the several different math series that I already own and others that I looked at.
If your dd is doing well with UCSMP, I would suggest that there is no reason to switch at this point. If you do need to switch in the future, you could probably do so without too much headache after Algebra or after Geometry. Once you get into Algebra 2, however, switching becomes a little more troublesome. Nevertheless, even then it still can be done; you just have to be more careful about possibly having to supplement gaps when jumping between any differing math programs (not just from UCSMP).
