My son is living at home and is taking a relatively light load, so he has too much free time. We're going to remedy that with a job. ;-)

His older sister lives at home and is in her senior year at NC State in history. She also works 15-20 hours a week. With multiple research papers to write and working, she doesn't have much "goof-off" time. What time she does have she spends with her fiancee.

In your son's case it looks like a matter of accepting that he doesn't have the time to goof -ff that his friends potentially have. If he can't accept that reality, he's going to get a rude awakening when the grades come in. But this might be something he has to learn on his own. You telling him what he should do probably won't sit well at this point. My dd had to learn the hard way not to put off writing those mega-page research papers she ends up doing for her history classes. No amount of my telling her did the trick, but 36 hours straight with no sleep did.

Hope it goes well.
Carrie
