The teachers may not ask, but you do have to give them an anticipated graduation date during registration.

I kind of figured no one really looked at this, since my daughter's age and "grade" don't compute, by public school standards. However, when I just went through registration for my son, I got a call from one of their administrators asking why I was registering him for a class that was one grade higher than what they interpreted as his grade level. (Even that is fuzzy, since I tried to be truthful about anticipating his graduation date, which already accelerates his "official" grade level a bit.)

The administrator seemed satisfied with my answers, but I did think it was odd, since I never had a similar conversation when my daughter took her first class.

It seems like our particular district is getting a bit pickier about the whole grade level thing with homeschoolers, though. I was recently informed in no uncertain terms by our district liason that, no matter what I said about my kids' curriculum, in their records, they would keep the kids at their grade-by-age equivalents.

So, the whole thing may depend a lot on your local district's practices and who is in charge that year.
