I believe some states do have sort of loose requirements for homeschoolers--in fact mine (Oregon) says that students have to study for a certain number of hours, and complete some general amount of subjects--but we so far exceed both of the requirements, that, frankly, I haven't looked at it in years (nobody checks, either, but that may not be the case in some states/districts).

In any case, going *beyond* the state requirements would never be a problem. Those are most likely the minimum requirements, as no doubt many students in the state go on to calculus in high school.
